Belladonna Lily - Amaryllis

These flowers had us stumped for a couple of years after we moved to our current home. Smooth, long, slender leaves came up each spring, then died off. We thought nothing ever happened with them. It took us 2 years to realize that this beautiful stalk of flowers showed up mid-late summer wherever those leaves had been in the spring! It is hard to do it justice - the stalks are a good 2 feet tall with a head of 4 or more light pink blooms. Here are a couple of "artistic" takes on it.

We have a flower that does something similar in our backyard...the first year we moved in I thought Ryan had killed the plant not realizing that the flower came later in the summer! It also took me a few years to figure out what was going on. Ours looked different though and was called a "Resurrection Lily" - aptly named!

I looked it up online and found that Resurrection Lily is another name for this flower. I like "Resurrection Lily" best! There appear to be a variety of colors out there.
